Customize Your Starbucks Drink!

Adding extra caramel to any caramel drink doesn't cost extra! As long as it's part of the drink recipe, extra pumps of syrup are free. Just ask for your drink extra sweet!

Customize Your Starbucks Drink!

After more than 3 years as a barista at Starbucks, I feel that I've become efficient at customizing my drinks to suit my ever changing moods. And based on the number of times my customers approach the counter with a furrowed brow as they stare at the menu boards, I'm not the only one that is constantly battling with the question, "Old standby favorite, or something new today?"

I can offer some suggestions! These might not be up there on the menu, but I'm sure you'll be pleased if you give one of them a try the next time you stop in at your favorite Starbucks!

Zebra Mocha - also known as a Tuxedo Mocha, a Michael Jackson, a Black & White, and other forgettable names. A delectable blending of white chocolate syrup with mocha syrup. Paired with espresso and whipped cream, it's one of my favorite 'spoil me I'm having a bad day' drinks.

White Mocha Frappucino with Java Chips - Made with our coffee frapp base, white chocolate syrup and a couple scoops of yummy java chips, this is a treat you'll surely savor!

Tazo Tea Mistos - Even before the recently released platform of tea mistos, highlighting the London Fog, Black and Vanillo Rooibus tea lattes, I loved to whip up a comforting mixture of tea and steamed milk with a touch of sweetener. My favorite mix is Calm tea with vanilla syrup and soy milk. Oh, and FYI, "misto" is pronounced mee-sto.

Iced Tea Lemonades - I usually choose green tea lemonade with splenda. Cutting out Classic syrups saves almost 100 calories! Passion tea tastes amazing with the lemonade as well. You might also enjoy substituting lemonade with our apple juice! Just tell your barista how you want it, sweetened, unsweetened, with lemonade or apple juice, splenda, etc.

Syrup Creme or 'Steamers' - Basically just steamed milk with any of our flavored syrups. On days when my tummy doesn't want espresso, I love to mix vanilla or caramel with steamed milk topped with creamy foam and sip on that. Other great choices are peppermint, Cinnamon Dolce and Raspberry. Great on a cold, rainy day to warm you up!

Other ideas:

Ask your barista to toss in a few espresso beans with your frappucino! The extra crunch adds something fun, with no extra calories!

For only 55 cents extra, adding an extra espresso shot can pack in a lot of extra flavor to your drink. I like to make my Zebra Mocha with an extra shot to really make it pop with flavor.

Mix it up! Can't decide whether to order passion tea or green? Ask for both! Your barista can customize it by doing 1/2 of each, and it tastes pretty good!

Add Chocolate or white chocolate to your strawberries & Creme frappucino.

Ask for nutmeg, cinnamon dolce sprinkles, or cinnamon on top of your drink. They don't cost extra, but add fun flavor!

Try soy milk instead of regular milk for a different taste. My favorite drink to substitute soy with is Chai Tea Lattes. It's as though soy milk was made just for that drink! And Starbucks soy isn't that nasty blah stuff, it has vanilla added, and has a creamier texture, so it tastes yummy.

Also, remember that if you're ever unhappy with your drink, don't be afraid to take it back to the counter and let them know. You might try one of my suggestions and really hate it! I hope not, but everyone is different! If you ever order a drink at Starbucks and it's not what you hoped or expected, return to the counter and let them know. Most stores have a great staff that will gladly re-make your drink or substitute it for something different if you're not 100% happy with it.
